Asteroseismology: Ground Based Observational
The improvement in observational techniques to study pulsations in solarlike stars is discussed. For higher mass stars the problem is to allocate speciic eigenmodes to a set of observed frequencies. Additional observables can be used to sort out the present ambiguities.
متن کاملAsteroseismology of red giants: photometric observations of Arcturus by SMEI
We present new results on oscillations of the K1.5 III giant Arcturus (αBoo), from analysis of just over 2.5 yr of precise photometric observations made by the Solar Mass Ejection Imager (SMEI) on board the Coriolis satellite. A strong mode of oscillation is uncovered by the analysis, having frequency 3.47 ± 0.03 μHz. By fitting its mode peak, we are able offer a highly constrained direct estim...
متن کاملAchievements and Limitations of Evidence-Based Medicine.
Evidence-based medicine (EBM) has a long history, but was revived in the early 1990s by a campaign mounted by a movement that took its name. The EBM movement focused attention on the need for greater objectivity in medical decision-making and led to the Cochrane Collaboration, which provides reviews of evidence on the basis of comparative research. Important limitations of EBM's effect on medic...
متن کاملAsteroseismology with the satellite I . Combining Ground -
Aims. We have analysed ground-based multi-colour Strömgren photometry and single-filter photometry from the star tracker on the satellite of the δ Scuti star ǫ Cephei. Methods. The ground-based data set consists of 16 nights of data collected over 164 days, while the satellite data are nearly continuous coverage of the star during 14 days. The spectral window and noise level of the satelli...
متن کاملGround-Based Photometric Searches for Transiting Planets
This paper reviews the basic technical characteristics of the ground-based photometric searches for transiting planets, and discusses a possible observational selection effect. I suggest that additional photometric observations of the already observed fields might discover new transiting planets with periods around 4–6 days. The set of known transiting planets support the intriguing correlation...
